Teacher Expectations

1. Model Aloha and Professionalism
     a. Be Respectful of All (students, parents, faculty, and support staff)
     b. Treat everyone with respect (even if you don’t think they deserve it!)
     c. We don’t have to always like everyone, but we do have to treat each other with respect.
         If a situation gets unpleasant, please stop and come to administration.
     d. Please have students refer to teachers as Mr./Ms./Mrs. (Last Name) for consistency.

2. It’s all about the KIDS!!!!
     a. They are why we are here, why we come to work every morning, why we are gathered in this place.
     b. We are here for the same purpose:  to prepare our students for college/career/life.

3. Drama-Free Zone!Please leave your drama at the door.
     a. Be part of the solution, not part of the problem.
     b. Assume the positive about each other.

4. Suit up, and Show up!
     a. Come!
         i. Participate in ALL PLCs/Data Teams, Faculty Meetings, Extended Meetings, and other committees/groups.
         ii. Do not schedule Dr. apts., IEPs, parent conferences, etc. during a scheduled meeting.
         iii. Need admin approval prior to missing a faculty meeting (except in cases of extreme emergency).
     b. Come Prepared!
         i. Have reading, materials, data, student work, and other required work,
             all completed prior to the meeting to help the meeting be more meaningful and effective.

5. Focus on the Speaker
     a. Limit side bar conversations/talking.
     b. Speakers, please be Brief!

6. Minds On, Hands On
     a. Focus on the task at hand
         i. No grading papers
         ii. No reading LN or internet
         iii. Doing other work/multi-tasking
         iv. No texting/cell phones

7. Cell Phone Free Zone
     a. Emergency only
     b. Turn to vibrate
     c. No cell phone use while with students
     d. Please do not allow student cell phone use in the class

8. Honor Time
     a. Please be on time
     b. Please stay during the meetings
     c. We will practice ending on time (It helps when we can start on time)

9. Collaborate Professionally
     a. Be willing to share your expertise
     b. Be willing to ask others for help
     c. At some point in time, we will all experience being on the mountain top,
         and we will all experience being down in the mud. Be willing to share your highs and lows.

10. Follow Through!
     a. Let’s do what we say we’re going to do (otherwise, let’s not say it)
     b. Be clear on who is doing what, by when, how it will be achieved, and then reflect as a group on the learning
     c. Let us know if you are unable to fulfill a commitment (early as you know)

11. Communicate!
     a. Don’t wait ‘til the last minute to share that you’re having difficulty!
     b. Share your views respectfuland honestly.
     c. Don’t be silent, but later grumble in the parking lot.
     d. Share a possible SOLUTION to your problem.

12. We are ALL Lifelong Learners!
     a. New Curriculum, so we will all be learning together.
     b. It’s okay if the students know more than we do (e.g. Technology!)
     c. Be willing to learn new things, try new strategies! Even Tiger Woods has a coach

13. Celebrate Successes!
     a. We’re on a journey that is never ending.
          Celebrate our successes along the way. Encourage each other
          when we don’t reach our goal to keep going and try again in a new way.

14. Team Ho’okena!
     a. We are Team Ho’okena!
     b. Individual Success depends upon Group Success.
     c. We are all in this boat together. Let’s SAIL, not sink!
